The comprehensive, state-of-the-art AnMed Health
Neuroscience Center is located on the seventh floor of the
Medical Center and includes:
- an 8-bed neuroscience intensive care unit (NSICU),
- an 8-bed neuroscience telemetry unit for patients who need
monitoring,
- and a 28-bed acute care unit for patients who require comprehensive
neurologic therapy.

Expanded services To help meet the demand for services,
the NSICU was enlarged from six to eight beds.
In addition, the new telemetry unit gives the hospital capabilities it didn't
have before. In the past, there wasn't a monitored step-down unit so patients
stayed longer in the ICU. When patients no longer required monitoring, they were
moved to other floors.
Improved patient care From the floor plan to the lighting
to the usage of technology, the units were designed to help nurses provide
better care. Strategically placed kitchenettes, inset sinks and supply closets
give nurses everything they need close by. There's also a central monitoring
station and between room computer stations to help nurses monitor more than one
patient at the same time.
A number of features were also added to better accommodate patients'
families. With lockers, a kitchen and several separate seating areas, the
waiting room is arranged to accommodate multiple families at once. A child's
playroom provides age-appropriate activities for patients' siblings and
children, and a consultation room gives families privacy when they receive
updates from the staff.
Specialized care at AnMed Health's Stroke Center The
Joint Commission, the main accrediting body for U.S. health care organizations,
has named AnMed Health Medical Center a Primary Stroke Center of Excellence. The
stroke center in AnMed Health's Neuroscience Center offers specialized staffing,
an integrated approach to medical treatment and access to some of the latest
treatments available.
Specialized staffing AnMed Health's stroke medical
director and stroke team, a group specializing in stroke diagnosis and
treatment, are available 24 hours a day. However, because stroke care is
complex, having input from several medical disciplines ensures that all
aspects of a patient's care are being considered. Our multidisciplinary team
meets daily to review patients' progress and coordinate care.
Integrated approach AnMed Health provides rapid
medical attention by integrating emergency medical services and the
Emergency Department's stroke alert protocol to ensure patients receive the
appropriate life-saving care.
Access to the latest treatments Many AnMed Health
physicians are involved in national or regional studies of new stroke
treatments. As a result, our patients have access to clinical trials for the
latest drug interventions and treatments available.
