If your doctor has recommended GYN or prostate surgery, there's an exciting
new option at AnMed Health.
Drs. Mark Lacy, Timothy Duniho, David Martoccia and Vidal
Despradel are now performing gynecology and prostate surgery using the
da Vinci® Surgical System. With da Vinci, doctors can perform a
hysterectomy or prostatectomy through a few dime-sized incisions. As a result,
patients can recover faster, experience less pain and see virtually no scarring.
da Vinci combines the benefits of minimally invasive surgery with the
precision of robotic technology. Surgeons operate the robot from a console that
provides a high-definition, 3-D view inside the body. The system seamlessly
translates the surgeon's hand, wrist and finger movements to the surgical
instruments inside the patient. This robotic technology improves surgeons'
dexterity and vision while operating, allowing them to perform complex
procedures with unmatched precision and safety.
The da Vinci® Surgical System The
da Vinci® Surgical System uses cutting edge robotic
technology to allow physicians to perform complex procedures more precisely and
less invasively. From a nearby console inside the operating room, your surgeon
controls the four robotic arms to perform your surgery through a series of tiny
incisions. The technology provides your surgeon with high-definition 3D vision
and a magnified view. As he or she works, your surgeon's hand movements are
translated into very precise movements of the surgical instruments. The result
is effective, minimally-invasive surgery with less pain and scarring, fewer
complications and a shorter recovery.
da Vinci Hysterectomy For most patients, da
Vinci Hysterectomy can offer numerous potential benefits over traditional
approaches to vaginal, laparoscopic or open abdominal hysterectomy, particularly
when performing more challenging procedures like radical hysterectomy for
gynecologic cancer.
da Vinci provides the surgeon with a superior surgical tool for
dissection and removal of lymph nodes during cancer operations, as compared to
traditional open or minimally invasive approaches. da Vinci
Hysterectomy also allows your surgeon better visualization of anatomy, which is
especially critical when working around delicate and confined structures like
the bladder. This means that surgeons have a distinct advantage when performing
a complex, radical hysterectomy involving adhesions from prior pelvic surgery or
non-localized cancer, or an abdominal hysterectomy.
da Vinci Prostatectomy Radical prostatectomy,
which surgically removes the prostate gland, is the most common treatment for
prostate cancer. Traditional open prostatectomy requires an 8- to 10-inch
incision. This approach commonly results in substantial blood loss and lengthy
and uncomfortable recovery.
Recent clinical studies suggest that da Vinci Prostatectomy may
offer improved cancer control and speed recovery of urinary continence and
sexual function.
