LifeFlight is an emergency medical helicopter based at AnMed Health Medical Center. Staffed by specially-trained flight nurses and paramedics, our Bell 407 helicopter is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year weather permitting. LifeFlight serves a 75-mile radius of Anderson, S.C., providing first response to traumatic accidents and emergency transfers between hospitals.
About the Aircraft and Its Crew
LifeFlight is equipped to handle the most critical patients. A paramedic and registered nurse are onboard every flight, and all of our crew members are certified in ACLS, PALS, NRP and PHTLS.
The aircraft carries a ReVel® transport ventilator, LUCAS CPR device, 12 lead EKG capability, rapid infusion pumps, continuous ETC02 via capnography, and GlideScope® and King Vision® scopes. If the patient needs blood, LifeFlight is one of a handful of programs in the country to carry blood and fresh frozen plasma on every call, as well as TXA (tranexamic acid). The only patients LifeFlight cannot transport are neonatal patients requiring an isolette and high-risk obstetrical patients.
LifeFlight uses a Bell 407, which has a top cruise speed of 140 knots or 160 mph and an average cruise speed of 133 knots or 153 mph. The helicopter’s range is 330 nautical miles or 379 statute miles. (Please note, weight and environmental conditions can affect the aircraft's cruise speed and range.)
Part of the Med-Trans Family of Helicopters
AnMed Health LifeFlight is a “DBA" for Med-Trans Corp., an FAA Part 135 certificate holder and operator. This means the aircraft and its flights operated by Med-Trans. All LifeFlight operations are conducted to ensure the helicopter is airworthy and in compliance with its FAA-approved inspection/maintenance program. The pilots are employed by Med-Trans, and Med-Trans specifies the conditions where flights can be operated. All pilots who are assigned to a flight by Med-Trans are qualified and have been trained under Med-Trans' approved training program.
