Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine

AnMed Health Wound and Hyperbaric MedicineChronic wounds can have a variety of causes. Diabetes, inactivity, chronic swelling and circulatory problems cause most hard-to-heal wounds. Up to 15 percent of the 20 million people living with diabetes are at risk of developing diabetic ulcers. Approximately 3 million Americans suffer from pressure ulcers. In others, ulcers are the result of disease in the veins and arteries. Traumatic injury, complications from radiation, surgery and skin disease can also cause stubborn wounds.

Located on the second floor of AnMed Health Cancer Center, Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine treats the following types of wounds:
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Arterial ulcers
  • Venous ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Trauma wounds
  • Cellulitis (a skin infection)
  • Osteomyelitis (a bone infection)
  • Burns
  • Radiation therapy wounds/ late complications
  • Slow healing surgical wounds
  • Any wound that has not healed within 30 days
Wound care patients do not need a doctor's referral to receive treatment. Our certified staff will work with several health care providers to create a care plan tailored to your needs.

Some of the treatments we offer include:
  • Debridement (removing tissue to improve healing)
  • Latest off-loading technologies
  • Advanced wound dressings
  • Allograft transplants with bioengineered tissues (a type of skin graft)
  • Negative pressure wound therapy
  • Wraps to decrease leg swelling/edema
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO)
After any treatment, we'll make sure you and your caregivers know how to prevent these kinds of wounds in the future. We'll also make sure that you understand how to change any bandages, manage your pain, adjust your diet, reduce pressure on the wound and how to avoid falls.

This comprehensive approach to caring for wounds is one reason our patients do so well. AnMed Health Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine consistently outperforms many of our peers when comparing the number of days it takes wounds to heal, and in the percentage of wounds that do heal*.
