On September 11, 2012, Dr. Griffin spoke words that would forever change my life. He stated, "You have a very aggressive type cancer and we are going to attack it aggressively." He never knew that I had prayed for God to send me the best oncologist available as I made calls from my hospital bed. Dr. Griffin was the first answer to my prayers. As a Christian, I firmly believe that even the date of diagnosis was a sent reminder to me that although my body was being attacked by this disease, God was still in control and would be with me throughout my healing journey. We began chemotherapy immediately, followed by surgery and then more chemotherapy. Friends throughout my community, including my nurse practitioner, circled our home and prayed for healing. Prior to falling asleep before surgery to insert the port in my arm, my AnMed doctor asked if she could pray for me. Her prayer filled my mind as I drifted off to sleep. The port would be the lifeline to receive the powerful drug used to kill the cancer cells in my body. Each week, I found myself looking forward to seeing the smiling nurses at the Cancer Center, who were uplifting and encouraging throughout to healing adventure. The hours spent there were filled with laughter, warm blankets, kind words, friends who took time to listen and peaceful sleep. Following my last treatment in March 2013, the nurses sang, "This is the Day that the Lord Hath Made." I am currently in remission and give God the praise and glory for healing me -- He certainly used my new friends at AnMed and I am forever grateful for the care I received and continue to receive from all of AnMed's staff!

I was fortunate to have a group of doctors and nurses that made sure my opinion was heard and I was able to make the decisions that were right for me. This whole experience brought out all my inner strength and now I look forward to each new day.

For me, being treated quickly meant everything. Now I fully understand how important it is to be proactive about checkups and if something is wrong, address it immediately — no waiting around. The positive side of cancer is that you learn to appreciate life. You don't wait on things anymore. Cancer gives you a stronger will to live and enjoy life to the fullest.

When I found out I had cancer, my first thought was "let's get this done as fast as we can." You have to have a positive attitude in these situations. I never dreaded any of my 36 treatments and every day I thank the Lord I got through them so quickly.

My nurse navigator is so comforting to me. I know that at any point during my experience, I can call her. She’s someone who will be there with me throughout my entire journey and that makes everything easier for not only me, but also my whole family.

The day my treatments were done, I got to ring the bell. I would like to believe that everyone in the world heard me ring the bell that day.

Even though I'm done with treatments, I'm still part of the support group at the AnMed Health Cancer Center. Joining this group was one of the best decisions I have ever made. There's nothing like being with a group of people who know what you're going through. We all support each other and have a great time together.
