Urology

AnMed Health Surgery - Urology
Urinary tract conditions affect quality of life for both men and women. Kidney stones can be painful, and incontinence — the loss of bladder control — can be a major interruption in everyday activities. AnMed Health's urologists specialize in treating urinary conditions as well as cancer of the prostate, bladder and kidney. Using minimally invasive techniques, including robot assisted prostate surgery, our urology team delivers advanced care that results in better outcomes and quicker recoveries.

Your urinary tract is the system of organs that includes your kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Working together, these organs cleanse your body of waste. The kidneys remove extra water and waste from the blood by producing urine. The ureters are narrow tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder in the lower abdomen. The bladder stores urine until it is emptied through the urethra.

A number of conditions can cause someone to need to a urology procedure. Some of the most common reasons we see patients are for:

Kidney Stones

Kidney stones are among the most common urinary tract disorders. Your urologist may use high energy shockwaves to crush the stones, allowing them to pass naturally in a patient's urine. Larger or hard-to-reach stones may require minimally invasive surgery using tiny scopes to view and retrieve the stones.

Men's Reproductive Health

In men, conditions of the reproductive system can affect the urinary tract, as well as fertility and potency. AnMed Health urologists treat enlarged prostates with medications or surgery to restore normal urine flow. No-scalpel vasectomy is a simple procedure that results in permanent birth control for men, and vasectomy reversal is available. Our specialists also treat male infertility and sexual dysfunction.

Cancer

The process for treating bladder and kidney cancer depends on the stage and location of the tumor. AnMed Health urologists use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. With advanced technology, our doctors can remove kidney tumors while sparing the healthy kidney tissue to help prevent kidney failure. Surgical treatment of bladder cancer may be performed as an open procedure or a minimally invasive one, depending on how far the cancer has spread into the bladder.

Quality Outcomes

Hospital Compare, a project of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, allows patients to compare local hospitals based on patient experiences, outcomes and safety.

When asked to rate their hospital on a scale of 1 to 10, AnMed Health's urology patients consistently ranked our care as a 9 or 10, and more than three-fourths of AnMed Health patients said they would recommend our hospital to a friend.
