Weight Loss Surgery

Is weight loss surgery
right for you?

Call 864-231-2773 to find out.
For people who have tried everything, weight loss surgery can be a safe and effective solution for long-term weight loss. Surgery is not for everyone. Controlling excess weight is a lifelong effort. It is important to understand that weight loss surgery is not a quick fix. But for those who undergo the procedure, it can be a life-transforming experience.

Weight loss surgery is a major life change, and we are committed to setting our patients up for success. That’s why we offer free educational seminars before surgery and a weight loss surgery support group for those adjusting to life after surgery.

Are You A Candidate?

According to the National Institutes of Health, weight loss surgery is the only proven method of achieving long-term weight loss for the morbidly obese.

In most cases, patients must be 100 pounds or more above their ideal body weight or have a Body Mass index (BMI) of 40 or more. Someone with a BMI of 35 to 39 will be considered for surgery if obesity-related health conditions create a medical need for weight reduction and if other, non-surgical alternatives have been exhausted.

Anyone who qualifies for surgery must first have a thorough health assessment. This includes diagnostic tests to identify existing medical conditions. A psychiatric evaluation or counseling is also required.

About Weight Loss Surgery

At AnMed Health, weight loss surgery is performed laparoscopically through small incisions, rather than the large incision required for open surgery. Benefits of the laparoscopic approach include:
  • A shorter hospital stay
  • Earlier return to normal activities
  • Less scarring and pain
